ДОМ ВЕЧЕРА · HOUSE OF THE EVENING
A HOUSE OF OBJECTS FOR THE DISTINGUISHED TABLE
Made to Remain.
DOM VECHERA is a house of uncommon objects formed in stoneware for gathering, ceremony, and devotion.
Caviar, champagne, oysters, vodka and the objects surrounding them are given their own forms, individually shaped and distinguished by dark surfaces, irregular edges, visible tool marks and the evidence of the hand.
Familiar purposes are reconsidered through unexpected forms, for serving, keeping, lighting, offering, and occasionally for no purpose beyond their presence.
Their purpose is familiar. Their form often is not.
Throughout the House, inscriptions appear quietly by hand, details intended to be discovered rather than displayed.
"I am drawn to objects made for a purpose, and to the rituals that give them meaning."
I shape each work individually in stoneware, allowing the evidence of its making to remain — an irregular edge, the passage of a tool, a surface that cannot be repeated exactly as it was.
I make slowly, and in small number.
Some are made for gathering.
Some for ceremony.
Some for devotion.
For the table.
For the house.
Made to remain.
